Fierce February

 27 February 2014

Fierce February is drawing to a close and many exciting things are awaiting us in March 2014! The past fortnight has been busy and exciting and this blog is the perfect opportunity to share the news.

The love of a family conquering all.

Let me start by sharing this heartwarming and ultra positive story about the love and strength of a family conquering all.

As some of you may know, Damian Porter is one of our much loved DRSSA members and plays a big part in our Powerchair Soccer and Push and Power sports. Damien has diastrophic dysplasia dwarfism. He’s 97cm tall, the joints of his arms don’t straighten and his hips are permanently dislocated. Damien’s wife, Tamara, has cerebral palsy.

This did not stop Damian and Tamara from starting a beautiful family of five including Tayah, 6, Blake, 4, and Lucas, 6 months.  We are proud to have Damian as a long standing DRSSA member and enjoy sharing his life successes.

News Limited published a story in last weeks Advertiser newspaper. Take a look at the link below for the full story.

Websters 1st Birthday
Our mascot Webster turned one on Tuesday and what better way to celebrate a first birthday than a BBQ and sugar filled cake! I have grown to be quite fond of Webster since commencing work at DRSSA. He is a positive and fun mascot to have represent our organisation and our 'Where's Webster' competition is proving to be very popular with our Facebook followers.

Take a look Webster cutting his cake. (He's pretty good at cake cutting for a one year old)

What do you want to hear on the 'Drop the DIS' Radio show?

Following on from our last blog, our Marketing Manager Jane Intini and I have commenced our twelve week training course with community radio station, Radio Adelaide 101.5FM. The course is leading us on our way to launch our weekly radio show called 'Drop the DIS' in April 2014.

Drop The DIS is targeted at people with a physical disability, their friends and family and anyone who likes listening to the radio. It will include interviews, music, comedy, sport, events and activities you can get involved with. This is our show with our content so we want to know what YOU want to hear.

What topics should we cover?
Who should we interview?
What sports do you want to hear about?
What music do you want hear?

We would like to hear your ideas, thoughts and suggestions. This is a chance to be heard so lets take advantage of this great opportunity and share our views.

Drop The DIS will air every Wednesday afternoon from 2.00 - 3.00pm starting 2nd April.
