International Wheelchair Day
Kate Collins from Channel 9 News was the MC at the event and her vibrant and enthusiastic personality made for an interactive and fun day.
The day kicked off with live music from the Sisters of Intervention, followed by the Kaurna Welcome to Country and some interesting speeches. The Boccia demonstrations from Boccia SA had many participants and I finally learned how to play, even though the rules weren't very difficult...

Rod Farr, our DRSSA Community Support Officer, delivered a talk about his life journey and the path his life took after his injury. His story about his Paralympic days was not only interesting but very inspirational.

Daryl Taylor talked about the wheelchair basketball team and introduced the demonstrations. The wheelchair basketball demonstrations were very interactive and fun. It was great to see many members of the Adelaide Thunder (now known as the Red Dust Heelers Adelaide) basketball team showing off their skills and enthusiasm for their sport.

New Drop the DIS Logo
Jane and I are pleased to show off the new Drop the DIS radio show logo. It was fun playing around with all the possible logo concepts but i couldn't resist using the parachute image. I love the feeling of flight as Drop the DIS is about breaking down barriers and taking the DIS from DISABILITY. So why not have a fun and positive logo with a scene of freedom. Join us on Wednesdays from 2-3pm on Radio Adelaide 101.5 fm.

No Handicap Golf Club
On Saturday March 8 our second golf clinic for the No
Handicap Golf Club was held at the Adelaide Shores Golf Course.
There were 8 people who attended and our DRS Membership
Officer took her two daughters, Brianna & Emily, along as well.
The participants began by working on their teeing off at the
driving range. They then moved on to practicing their putting and finished by
having a putting competition where they had to put the ball into target zones.
Everyone had fun and it was a beautiful sunny day. The next golf clinic will be held on March 22. If you'd like to be there contact: jacob@drssa.org.au

The Disability Friendly
Scheme is a way for you & your business to acknowledge and support

of your membership fee stays in South Australia & goes directly to
helping South Australians with a physical disability. This allows DRSSA
to expand our services and activities, which ultimately benefits the
entire community.
As
the DFS grows, it will enable DRSSA to employ more people with a
disability within the Scheme itself therefore providing valuable skills
& independence to those who need it more than most.
The
Disability Friendly Scheme is designed to broaden the understanding of
the wider community to the real life needs of people with a disability
and to help change general attitudes towards this sizeable segment of
the population.
It’s
not always about how wide the doors are or if there is a ramp outside -
that’s important of course - but in day-to-day life, it’s not
necessarily a major part of the reality of living with a disability for
the people who have one & those that live with them.
Businesses
or organisations who join the DFS will be able to access information to
assist them to make their premises even more disability friendly if
they choose...plus the free training on how to interact with people with a physical disability that forms part of your membership.
